Some of the first occurences of Ski-Bikes date back to the mid to late 1800s. Even with such a long history, there are still many questions that get asked relating to what, exactly, a Ski-Bike is. Ultimately, its as simple as it sounds. A Ski-Bike is a bike with skis instead of wheels. That's the easy part, however.
There are two main styles of Ski-Bikes right now. The oldest style is what is known as a Skibob. This style is very popular at European ski areas, and it has gained quite a bit of popularity in the United States over the last 15 years or so. A more detailed description of Skibobs in the Skibob tab to the left.
The second major style of Ski-Bike is what is known as a "pegger" bike. Many of these bikes are either custom made rigs or stripped down mountain bikes with Ski-Bike conversion kits. This style has been pioneered, to an extent, in the United States. A detailed description of Peggers is in the Pegger tab to the left.
There are also a couple of other styles of Ski-Bikes available. The Board Bike is similar to a BMX bike. The bike uses boards that are very similar to a snowboard. The other style is a trike. Most of the trikes on the market have one ski in front and two in the back. More detail about these two styles of Ski-Bike will be coming soon.
